starling

This starling from the summer of 2021 looks a little odd. It is molting out of its breeding plummage into non-breeding feathers. About 60 starlings were introduced in Central Park, NY in 1890 by a fan of Shakespeare who wanted this European bird in the US. Needless to say, they thrived. The invasive species is considered a nuisance bird in the states. (Kelsey King, Bristol)

mantis eggs

Kelsey King kept a praying mantis inside for observation for awhile in the summer of 2021. This one laid eggs and she got a neat photo. The praying mantises were returned to her yard in Bristol.
